Girl's Prom Dress Brings Charges Of Racism

An 18-year-old girl from Utah who goes by the Twitter name Keziah received a very negative reaction to her prom dress on the social media platform.  The dress is a long satin Chinese dress called a cheongsam but also known as a qipao, and is considered traditional clothing.

At least one response to the pictures of Keziah in the dress referred to the fashion choice as "cultural appropriation."  Keziah is not Asian.

Other came to Keziah's defense and insisted that a claim by Jeremy Lam that "my culture is NOT your goddamn prom dress" amounted to bullying.

Keziah's reaction was to write here own response on Twitter in which she said, "To everyone causing so much negativity: I mean no disrespect to the Chinese culture. I’m simply showing my appreciation to their culture. I’m not deleting my post because I’ve done nothing but show my love for the culture. It’s a fucking dress. And it’s beautiful."
