The U.S. Capitol event honors law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty. President John F. Kennedyproclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day in 1962. President Trump regularly praises law enforcement officers. He has also been very critical of the FBI because of the ongoing investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign.
