KFBK Morning News Shop Recap - Tuesday September 28th

Leads:

  1. Governor Newsom is making voting by mail a permanent part of elections in California.  The new legal requirements mean every legally registered voter in the state will receive a mail-in ballot. A voter can also opt to vote in person on election day if they don't want to mail in their ballot.
  2. Thousands of Californians are petitioning Governor Newsom to veto a bill that would mandate an ethnic studies high school graduation requirement. AB 101 now sits on Governor Newsom's desk. He has until October 10th to act.
  3. A federal judge has ordered prison guards and other jail employees in California to get vaccinated. Unions have two weeks to come up with a plan to vaccinate more than 66,000 prison employees, along with any inmates who choose to work outside the prisons.
  4. California continues to have the lowest levels of coronavirus cases in the country.  CDC data indicates cases and hospitalizations have sharply declined in California. About 59% of the state is vaccinated against COVID-19, slightly higher than the U.S. average of 57%.
